Our client located in Louisville, KY has an immediate need for an Occupational Health & Safety Professional. This is a direct hire opportunity.

Client Profile
Our client is a well established manufacturing organization with a large and complex Louisville operation combining heavy industrial aluminum processing with packaging and finishing operations. The facility employs approximately 650 people and provides an excellent environment for an early career EHS professional to gain significant hands on experience within a sophisticated manufacturing operation.

Occupational Health & Safety Professional Role
The Occupational Health & Safety Professional will serve as a highly visible, boots on the ground safety resource supporting employees, supervisors, engineers and plant leadership throughout the Louisville facility.

This position is designed for an early career EHS professional who wants to build strong technical and operational experience in a complex manufacturing environment. The successful candidate does not need years of heavy industrial experience, but they must bring a solid foundation in occupational safety, the ability to learn complex processes, strong communication skills and the confidence to positively influence safe behavior on the manufacturing floor.

Approximately 70% of this position will be spent in the manufacturing environment, with the remaining 30% supporting documentation, investigations, training, reporting and other EHS activities.

The Occupational Health & Safety Professional will work closely with the EHS Manager and broader plant team to implement and sustain safety systems while helping the organization continue developing a more proactive approach to workplace safety.

• Establish credibility and productive relationships with frontline employees, supervisors, engineers and plant leadership
• Become a visible and approachable safety resource throughout the manufacturing operation
• Develop enough knowledge of plant operations to independently identify hazards and address unsafe behaviors
• Communicate safety requirements confidently and professionally, including situations requiring an employee to change an unsafe practice
• Demonstrate curiosity and the ability to quickly learn complex manufacturing processes and EHS requirements
• Collaborate effectively with operations, engineering and other EHS team members
• Help employees understand not only what safety requirements exist, but why those requirements matter
• Contribute to a proactive safety culture focused on identifying and reducing risk before incidents occur
• Continue developing technical EHS knowledge under the guidance of experienced EHS leadership

Responsibilities

• Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor supporting employees, supervisors and operational leaders
• Conduct safety inspections, audits and workplace risk assessments
• Identify hazards and work with employees and leadership to implement corrective and preventive actions
• Independently address unsafe behaviors and reinforce established safety expectations
• Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action planning
• Support ergonomic evaluations and other workplace exposure assessments
• Assist with implementation and maintenance of occupational health and safety programs
• Support compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulatory requirements
• Maintain required EHS documentation, records and performance metrics
• Participate in new employee safety orientation and training
• Support training related to lockout/tagout, confined space and other critical manufacturing safety programs
• Participate in safety committees and cross functional improvement initiatives
• Support industrial hygiene, hearing conservation and respiratory protection programs
• Assist with emergency response planning, training and preparedness
• Support Behavioral Based Safety and continuous improvement initiatives
• Work collaboratively with engineering and operations on projects and process changes
• Assist with environmental compliance activities as needed

Required Skills:

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, engineering, or a related technical discipline
• 0-2 years of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) experience (can include internships/co-ops)
• Basic understanding of occupational safety principles and what makes an effective workplace safety program
• Familiarity with core manufacturing safety concepts (risk assessment, lockout/tagout, confined space, hazard identification)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Confidence communicating with frontline employees and plant leadership
• Demonstrated ability to learn technical/complex subject matter
• Collaborative, team-oriented approach
• Ability to positively influence others and address safety concerns professionally
• Comfortable spending most of the workday in an active manufacturing environment

Preferred Skills:

• Recent graduates with relevant safety internships, co-ops, or manufacturing experience
• OSHA 30 training (or comparable knowledge)
• Heavy industrial manufacturing experience (plus, not required)
• Union manufacturing experience (plus, not required)

Schedule
First shift, Monday through Friday
Approximately 70% plant floor and 30% office based responsibilities
Occasional communication outside normal business hours may be required to support a manufacturing operation with areas running 24/7
