Primary responsibilities include designing, constructing, and optimizing reporting and analytical functionality of the SAP Business Warehouse (BW) for the purposes of strategic management reporting and analytics. This opportunity is to focus activities on enhancing and delivering strategic value to meet information requirements across a diversified multi national organization with business activities in the areas of oil and gas, realty, power, and investments. This position will interface primarily with other BW team members, company management, BW “power” and “casual” users, SAP R/3 functional experts, Basis Administrators and other IT professionals.
Responsibilities:
1. BW Modeling, Designing and Construction for System Optimization – Optimize functionality and information delivery via proactive and selective BW system development across the organization. Requirement and enhancement identification, prioritization and development. Explore additional external data source opportunities to support business reporting and analytical requirements and enhancements.
2. Data extraction and transformation – Design, develop and support architecture to support data extraction, transformation, staging and holding/storage. Design / develop / optimize data extraction techniques from R/3 and external systems into BW. Identify areas in BW where logical data transformation / derivation / cleansing is best served and develop appropriate solutions. Design system component which reconcile and audit the results of the extract / transform / conversion of data from source systems to target BW system.
3. Info-cube activation, Enhancement and Construction – Assist in the overall design of the development of BW technical architecture, data models and data structures through use of info-cubes, multi-cubes, remote cubes, and aggregates where appropriate. Incorporate use of ODS objects where needed. Apply business and application knowledge to design/tune data models for flexibility, simplicity, consistency, and integrity. Work with administrators to address indexing strategies, DB object maintenance, and processing patterns to ensure design meets functional performance requirements.
4. Ad-Hoc and Custom Query Design – Work with BW’s front-end infrastructure development including BEx Analyzer/Browser, query development, reporting tools and security. Partner with business functional experts to transition ownership of extension query writing to functional teams and power users.
5. Data Quality and reconciliation - Identify source data quality gaps and escalate data quality problems to source system functional teams. Work with functional teams to determine if data cleansing is best served in source systems (R/3 and external) or whether to cleanse in BW. Identify business processes that impact BW data and drive path forward with appropriate functional areas.
6. Backup for system administration and training – Provide backup to other BW team members by cross training responsibilities and offer assistance during heavy work periods (month end close, delta loading cycle). Requires an ability to learn the company’s detailed BW process chains, interdependencies and third party system loading cycles. Cross-train other BW team members on both back-end and front-end processes. Assist in the facilitation of in-house offerings of BW casual and power user training.
7. Documentation - Maintain BW technical design documentation with regard to BW data structures, cubes, queries, architecture, and technology.
Desirable skills / experience:
1. BS/BA/BBA degree in computer science, accounting or general business
2. Experience with ERP systems in an Oil and Gas environment. Exposure to investments, realty and power industries also highly desirable
3. 2 - 3 years of SAP R/3 experience with R/3 version 4.xx or greater
4. 2 – 3 years experience in technical side of BW (version 2.0 or later) with in-depth knowledge of the "back-end" processes including transport management, system monitoring, building Data Sources, InfoObjects, and InfoCubes
5. Experience with multiple BW version upgrade, regression testing, and at least one full cycle BW implementation or upgrade
6. Proficiency with the BW Administrator Workbench, Business Explorer and Business Explorer Analyzer
7. Experience with SAP/BW ‘s: SEM (Strategic Enterprise Management), BPS (Business Planning and Scenarios), HR (Human Resources) and LIS (Logistics Information), preferred
8. Strong understanding of database design, data modeling, relational databases, OLAP, SQL and other Data Warehousing development environments
9. Experience leading effort in defining system requirements for information delivery in integrated systems, ERP or Data Warehousing environment
10. Extensive experience troubleshooting problems in R/3 and BW systems utilizing internal and external resources
11. Demonstrated leadership skills in working within a technical and functional team environment
12. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with executive management
13. Excellent written and verbal communications skills
